On the eve of monumental breakthroughs in Quantum Computing, we collaborated with Director of IBM Research Dario Gil and our favorite CG artists to portray the Future of Computing.

CHALLENGE
While computing continues to advance, its foundational unit—the bit, or binary digit—remains. Today, the most exciting developments are coming from scale: scaling the volume for classic computing, scaling neural networks enabling Machine Learning, and increasing the quantity of qubits in quantum computing.
CONCEPT
For our story's hero, we selected a unit that was minimal in form but that had the potential to exhibit a wide array of behaviors—a simple cube that could split light creating beautiful, complex prismatic refraction.
CONCEPT : POWERS OF TEN

We looked to the IBM classic Powers of Ten by Ray and Charles Eames to make complex technicalities of computing accessible scaling up from a single unit.

PROCESS : BEHAVIOR x DESIGN

We simultaneously iterated upon behaviors for bits, neurons and qubits with IBM's researchers in a real-time rendering environment to most accurately capture the technology while developing the final looks for the motion graphics.
