A permanent exhibition at Bell Labs HQ showcased their contributions to engineering through the decades, from sensor hardware to AI.

A transparent LCD touchscreen was selected to present both physical artifacts and a variety of digitized historic media. Selecting a topic to explore revealed a physical artifact, text description and photo and video contents.

We wanted to emphasize moments of discovery but found that solid colors on the transparent LCD could reveal the physical artifacts behind the screen too early.

To address this challenge, ambient, generative graphics maintained the user’s gaze on the surface of the LCD (with an Easter egg of responsiveness) until it was time to reveal the artifacts within the display.
